About Memorial University Of Newfoundland

Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) is a renowned public research institution located in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, with additional campuses in Corner Brook, Saint Pierre, and Harlow, England. Offering a diverse array of programs ranging from certificate to post-graduate studies, MUN caters to students worldwide through online courses and degrees.

Established in September 1925 to commemorate those lost in World War I, MUN stands as the largest university in Atlantic Canada and the sole university in Newfoundland and Labrador. With a faculty of 1,330 and a staff of 2,474 in 2018, MUN serves approximately 18,000 students from nearly 100 countries.

Initially known as Memorial University College (MUC), MUN began its legacy on Parade Street in St. John’s, providing local education opportunities and honoring fallen soldiers. Starting with non-degree programs, MUC expanded under the presidency of J. L. Paton, eventually merging with the Normal School in 1933 to incorporate teacher training.
