About University of Ottawa

The University of Ottawa, often called uOttawa or U of O, is a bilingual public research university in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Established as the College of Bytown in 1848, it gained university status in 1866 and a pontifical charter in 1889. Reorganized in 1965, it is now independent and the largest English-French bilingual university globally. With ten faculties offering diverse academic programs, it boasts the largest library with over 4.5 million titles. As a member of the Canadian U15 group, it had a research income of CA$420 million in 2022. The co-educational university enrolls around 40,000 undergraduate and over 6,000 post-graduate students, with a significant international presence of 26%.
